Ben Pine Biography

Ben Pine is a popular American news anchor and meteorologist who is presently working as the chief meteorologist for WHAS11 TV, an ABC affiliate based in Louisville, Kentucky. Pine shares his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Chief Meteorologist at WHAS-TV. I love this town and this community. I take this job very seriously and I carry it with me at all times, keeping an eye on the weather. My objective is to carry on the tradition of WHAS-hardworking, TV professional, and memorable chief meteorologists. “

Pine began his television career in fifth grade when a certain St. Louis weatherman put him on the noon news for winning a weather drawing contest. “I sketched a tornado and won, but my joy was short-lived when I found out I had to go on live TV in front of my entire school!”

Pine had no idea that 11 years later he’d be a member of the Ball State University Storm Chase Team, chasing real-live tornadoes ripping through the Great Plains. In addition, Pine overcame the fear of speaking in front of large audiences, and he is now delighted to have the responsibility of telling people to take cover when extreme weather and tornadoes strike the town.

Ben began his tour de television (luckily before YouTube) at Ball State University on WCRH-TV in Muncie, Indiana.

Moreover, for the first professional gig, Pine and his wife Sarah were heading to Peoria, Illinois working in radio and forecasting for professional golf tournaments with Mobile Weather Team, INC. Pine then spent a year as the morning meteorologist at KRCG-TV in Jefferson City, Missouri, and three years as the morning meteorologist at WAGT-TV in Augusta, Georgia. In May 2008, he joined the First Alert StormTeam.

Ben was delighted to make a stop at the home of one of golf’s best courses in the world, and home to the Masters, “I will always remember being able to caddy on those hallowed grounds of Augusta National for three seasons, and getting to play four times!”

During his free time, Ben likes spending time outside with his wife and two children, as well as playing golf. He particularly enjoys seeing his son Brady and daughter Hannah play baseball and softball, as well as coaching when the weather permits.

Furthermore, Pine has received the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Seal of Approval, as well as the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Seal and the National Weather Association (NWA) Seal. He also received the Associated Press award for “Best Weather Reporting” in Georgia in 2007.
