Jay Towers Biography

Jay Towers is a renowned American journalist who currently serves as a TV news anchor for Fox TV in Detroit and he is also a morning radio host for iHeart Media. He kicked off his broadcasting journey when he was 14 years old at WJRZ in Toms Rivers, New Jersey.

When he turned 18, Towers got his first-time radio show in Atlantic City at WAYV and then at Boss 97. He left the Jersey Shore immediately after his 20th birthday. Towers became one of the youngest Program Directors in America at WMAX in Grand Rapids. After a year, he helped in launching 93.1 WDRQ in Detroit.

In addition, in the summer of 1997, Towers was called back to the east coast to work as Music Director as well as afternoon host at Q102 in Philadelphia. However, he felt his deep attachment to the city of Detroit, that he returned to 93.1 DRQ in 1999 as the host of “Jay Towers and the Morning Revolution” until 2005.

Towers spent the following four years at 97-1 The Ticket hosting the “Jay & Bill” show along with Bill McAllister prior to making 100.3 WNIC his last radio stop in 2010. He continues to host “Jay Towers in the Morning” on 100.3 WNIC each morning with Chelsea and Allyson.

Back in 2004, something funny happened to Towers. He was in the lobby of the Fischer Building on a Saturday Morning to promote WDRQ’s “Lion King Musical” Contest. It was the first day tickets went on sale and he was waiting to be interviewed by FOX 2 reporter about their contest, but she never showed up.

The photographer gave Towers an earpiece and he talked back to Deena Centofanti in the studio about all the excitement in the lobby while interviewing the people in line. The producer asked him to do it a few more times that morning.

The following Monday, Towers received a call from the News Director asking him whether he would be interested to fill in for the next two weeks until they employed a new feature reporter and since then, he has been at FOX 2. From feature reporter to weekend anchor to morning anchor, he has been having the time of his life. Moreover, the question asked by many is how he does both the Morning TV and Radio Together every day.

Towers thanks for the good partnership between iHeart Radio and Fox 2. He says he is lucky enough to make his WNIC radio studio with Chelsea and Allison just a few steps away from the Fox 2 News Studio. When you don’t see him on Fox 2 News Morning for a few minutes, chances are he is in the studio next door talking on the radio.

Furthermore, the 1978 Film “Superman The Movie” was his earliest childhood memory and his favorite. He is a whole superman nerd and not afraid to admit it. His super-obsession even earned him the attention of director Zack Snyder. The director put him in “Batman v Superman” back in 2016 playing Metropolis TV Reporter.

In 2018, Towers as well hosted and produced a TV special on the 40 Anniversary of “Superman the Movie” that garnered an Emmy nomination. He also began “the Caped Wonder Superman Podcast” with Superman Historian Jim Bowers. You can find it on iTunes, iHeart Radio, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Additionally, Radio and TV have blessed Towers with the opportunity to have a very wide platform every day in Detroit. He is honored to be part of the many charity events throughout the year but wanted to really use his voice to do something personal for himself.

In 2014, Towers created the “Jay’s Juniors” program on WNIC. The aim was to create a magical escape for children in Metro Detroit who suffer from chronic or terminal illnesses. He did so by taking the whole family on an all-expenses-paid trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Since starting Jay’s Juniors, they have been fortunate to take over 100 families on trips during the Christmas season. Unfortunately, some of their juniors have sadly passed away, but the families hold on to some of the most special memories ever from their time together. Similarly, in 2017, after surgery to fix an aortic aneurism,

Towers’s father went into Septic Shock due to an undiagnosed bladder infection. He was close to death as you can get and is without a doubt a living miracle. Luckily, his father is back to killing bugs with the family business and is always Towers’s first phone call of the day at 3 a.m. when he leaves for work. Sepsis kills 270,000 Americans every year, at any age, at any time. If you know what to look for you can assist in saving a life.
