Monica Adams is an American journalist who currently serves as the morning traffic anchor for Today in St, Louis on 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, she is a fill-in anchor and a feature reporter. Adams was born in St. Louis and raised in Florissant, watching 5 On Your Side.
“My family, like so many others in St. Louis, grew up with Mike Bush, Art Holliday, Kay Quinn, and many other talented 5 On Your Side journalists. I was thrilled to learn from some of the best in the business during my internship in the early ‘90s, and I’m elated to return to my roots,” said Monica. Adams says she has been blessed to work her whole career in her hometown. She came to 5 On Your Side in January of 2020 after serving as KTVI’s traffic anchor since 2005.
“I enjoy the connection of our TISL team. We are all passionate about our field and want to deliver the news that people need in their lives but also have fun so there is that perfect balance,” said Monica. “I love that viewers bring us into their homes and I want them to feel like we are part of their family.”
In addition, Adams kicked off her journalism career in 1993 as a reporter on the St. Louis Blues, Rams, and Cardinals for KTJJ-KJCF radio prior to serving as the station’s news and sports director. “I love to tell stories that make others think about their own lives and how to live to the very best of their ability,” said Monica. “Positive stories are what I’m drawn to and digging in to find a way for everyone to realize they have the potential to have a better version of their lives if they feel lost.”
In addition, since 1999, Adams has been an AFAA-certified personal trainer and has assisted thousands of people in the area to achieve their goals. Health and fitness have always been a major part of her life as well as volunteering. At the age of 19, Adams developed a big clot that almost killed her. Her doctors referred to her as their “miracle patient” and she feels her life was saved to make a big change in the world.
Furthermore, she is devoted to giving back to the community in any way possible, and she volunteers for various area non-profits, including the American Lung Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Responder Rescue, and many others. Adams is married to a St. Louis County police lieutenant and is a huge supporter of first responders. She is also an avid animal lover and advocates for pet adoption because there are many that require a caring home.
