Norman Seawright III Biography

Norman Seawright III is a popular American sports journalist who currently serves as the weekend sports anchor at WCCO | CBS Minnesota. He joined the station in June of 2019. Previously, he worked as a sports anchor and reporter at WOWK-TV.

Seawright III has long nursed an intrigue with, and love for, the Twin Cities, and is excited to return to Minnesota. Although he was born in Minnesota, if you ask him where he is from, he will tell you Louisville, Kentucky. This is because it’s easier to locate than Greenville, Indiana (which is just 20 mins up the road).

During his childhood, Norman was mesmerized by television news. While in high school, he got involved with the media, writing for the high school newspaper, producing news stories as well as calling basketball games for WNAS-TV at Floyd Central High School.

In addition, Seawright III joined Ole Miss for his undergraduate studies, specializing in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish, and considered studying news. However, working with Ole Miss Athletics as a reporter and play-by-play broadcaster switched his tune almost completely.

Having already prepared to study for a graduate degree, Seawright III joined Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication as a student of Broadcast & Digital Journalism with an emphasis in Sports Communication. His storytelling capability was enhanced by the week-long Meredith–Cronkite Fellowship between Arizona State University and KPHO in Phoenix.

Moreover, Seawright III interned at WLKY in Louisville in both news and sports. He also interned at KARE and in WSYR in Syracuse in sports. He started his career as the weekend sports anchor at KBJR/KDLH in Duluth, MN. After working for three years as a sports anchor/reporter (and winning Sports Anchor of the Year all three years from the Virginias’ Associated Press Broadcasters) in Charleston, WV at WOWK, coming back to Minnesota feels like a homecoming.

Furthermore, while in high school, Seawright III played tennis, basketball, and ran track (sprinter/high jumper). He is a fanatical Ole Miss football and baseball fan. His whole family attended (his father was a receiver for the Rebels). Norman likes Syracuse basketball and loves Louisville basketball. Minnesota stimulated an interest in hockey, turning him into a Wild fan (when not cheering on the Nashville Predators).

Additionally, in his free time, Norman is either playing his violin, reading, balancing his love of food and keeping in shape, or singing to himself. He also loves music and he likes most genres. He is always ready to challenge himself, in life, in work, and most surely in the weight room (invite him, and he will almost always say yes).
