Rajat Sharma is a well-known Indian journalist and businessman currently serving as the chairman and editor-in-chief of India TV, an Indian news outlet. He is also best known for his program, Aap Ki Adalat, in which he interviews celebrities and politicians in a courtroom-like setting.

Upon completing his Master’s degree, Rajat was employed as a researcher by Janardan Thakur, a journalist who quit Ananda Bazar Patrika to establish a new syndicate column. Moreover, he became part of Onlooker Magazine as a trainee and, in 1985, went on to become its editor. During this time, Sharma had moved to Mumbai. Following his three-year stay at Onlooker, he went on to become an editor at the Sunday Observer and later at The Daily as an editor.

Moreover, in 1992, Rajat bumped into Zee TV’s Subhash Chandra when he was flying to Delhi amid a casual talk, and the idea of Aap Ki Adalat came in. The first episode of Aap Ki Adalat was shot in 1993 for Zee TV with Lalu Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Bihar. Sharma has interviewed over 750 people on his show, and most recently, Aap Ki Adalat celebrated 21 years of broadcasting, becoming the longest-running show in Indian television history. Additionally, Sharma hosts the prime-time show Aaj Ki Baat on India TV.

Rajat once served as the president of the Delhi Cricket Association. However, he resigned a month into his job due to corruption and some “pulls and pressures.” In 2015, he obtained the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India for his work in journalism.
