Shahadi Wright Joseph is an American actress, singer, and dancer popularly known for starring in Jordan Peele’s horror film US in 2019 as well as the voice for Young Nala in Jon Favreau’s musical film The Lion King in 2019. She also starred in Holiday Anders in the podcast, Six Minutes. Wright has been dancing since the age of two. She once auditioned for a school play in her third grade using Lupita Nyongo’s Academy Award acceptance speech.
Her first major acting role commenced when she was cast as Young Nala in the Broadway musical adaptation The Lion King, at nine years old. She appeared as Madison, an original cast member in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of School of Rock. In the year 2016, she starred as Little Inez Stubbs in the NBC musical television special Hairspray Live!
Joseph started starring in the podcast Six Minutes in 2018 where she plays the lead role, Holiday. It was also announced that Wright would reprise her role as young Nala in the 2019 remake of The Lion King in November 2017 directed by Jon Favreau. She decided to focus on the film because she sees the character as a role model who inspires young girls. Later on, after she heard that Beyonce would be voicing grown-up Nala, Joseph made clear that she was motivated to work warder and consider how Beyonce would approach the role.

In 2019, she starred in the supernatural horror film Us directed by Jordan Peele. Also, she read for the dual role of Zora and Umbrae three times before being offered the role. The film gained critical acclaim and was a box-office success. In her performance, she earned several award nominations, such as a Saturn Award and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award.
Moreover, she had a starring role as Ruby Lee Emory in the Amazon Prime Video horror drama series Them which was released in April 2021.
