Byron Miranda is an American five-time Regional Emmy Award-winning television journalist. Currently he is the morning meteorologist on WPIX in New York City. Byron joined PIX11 in New York City on June 19, 2017 after working as the weekday meteorologist for the NBC station WMAQ in Chicago.
Prior joining WMAQ, Byron was the meteorologist at KNBC in Los Angeles. Previously, Byron was the chief meteorologist at KGTV in San Diego and the chief meteorologist at KCBS in Los Angeles. Additionally, he had a national presence on CNN as a meteorologist for the network.
He is the recipient of four Emmy Awards, including Regional Emmy Award an outstanding Achievement for Special Events Programs in 2000 and in 2002. He then received a Golden Mike Award, Best Weathercaster in Southern California in 2003. Moreover he was received a Regional Emmy Award (Pacific Southwest Chapter) On-Camera Talent – Weather, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2011.
Moreover, Miranda began his television career as an assignment editor and has worked in a number of major media markets, including Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. Before finding his way onto television as a meteorologist, he was an Oakland police officer and an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force.
