Cristian Benavides is an American Emmy award-winning journalist presently working at NBC 6 as a general assignment reporter. Previously, he worked at WPIX, in New York as a reporter.
Benavides graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in science in broadcast journalism. He also enrolled at the Colombia University in New York graduating with a master of Science in Stabille Fellowship. While in senior year, Benavides was a White House intern. He was a Stabile Fellow at the Columbia Journalism.
Benavides started his journalism career as an anchor for the Univision affiliate in Tampa, Florida. Later on, he joined Telemundo where he worked as an anchor at WNJU an affiliate of Washington D.C, and Phoenix. Benavides won an Emmy award for his ground coverage of the Ecuador earthquake in 2016. The earthquake nearly killed 700 people and left thousands homeless.
Moreover, Benavides’s other notable coverages include reporting on Hurricane Matthew from Florida and the Woman’s FIFA World Cup from Vancouver. He as well reported on the border crisis in Brownsville, Texas for Telemundo and NBC stations. Recently, he covered the Surfside Condo Collapse tragedy.
