John Lauritsen Biography
John Lauritsen is an Emmy award-winning American journalist from Montevideo, Minnesota who presently works as a reporter at WCCO-TV. He joined the station in late July of 2017. Two days after he began, the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed.
Prior to his journalism career, Lauritsen was brought up on a farm close to Milan, Minnesota, and attended Montevideo Senior High School where he graduated. Moreover, he obtained a master’s degree in mass communication from St. Cloud State University and has also taught a class there. He acknowledges growing up on a farm and attending school in a small town which aided him to become the reporter he is today.
Lauritsen kicked off his career at KSAX-TV in Alexandria, Minnesota, prior to heading to KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Iowa. In addition, he worked at Channel 12 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, prior to joining WCCO-TV. He has been an anchor, reporter, sports anchor, sports reporter, producer, editor, and photographer during his career in television.
Lauritsen’s best stories are those that show a special moment in someone’s life. He reported on a soldier in 2008 who hailed from Iraq and surprised his daughter at a volleyball game. Though Lauritsen isn’t a fan of snakes, he reported on Minnesota’s only poisonous snake population in southeastern Minnesota and he succeeded without being bitten in the process.

In his free time, you can find Lauritsen at the gym or playing in one of the 3 volleyball leagues that keep him busy throughout the year. Moreover, he plays in a football league in the fall and he plays tennis. Furthermore, Lauritsen ran the Twin Cities Marathon for the first time in 2009. He has as well tried surfing, rock climbing, and skydiving, and is an avid reader once he finds time to sit down. Currently, he resides in Maple Grove with his wife, Jessica, and their two children, Harlow and Bo.
