Katie Couric is a well-known American journalist and media personality. She has been a television host at all the Big Three television networks in the United States. This includes ABC, NBC, and CBS News. Besides that, she also publishes a daily newsletter called, Wake Up Call.
As for her studies, Couric attended and graduated from Arlington Public Schools: Jamestown Elementary, Williamsburg Middle School, and Yorktown High School. During her time in high school, she interned at Washington, D.C. all-news radio station WAVA. She later enrolled at the University of Virginia, where she graduated with a degree in American Studies in 1979. During her time at university, she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Couric’s rise to prominence began as a general assignment reporter for the ABC News affiliate WTVJ in Miami, Florida. She later worked as an assignment editor for CNN and as a reporter for WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. However, her first job was at the ABC News bureau in Washington, D.C. in 1979.
However, Katie’s breakthrough came when she joined NBC News in 1989 as the Deputy Pentagon Correspondent. She was subsequently promoted to the role of co-anchor of the “Today” show in 1991, alongside Bryant Gumbel. During her time as co-anchor, the show’s ratings surged, and she became a household name across America.
In 2006, Couric made another historic move by becoming the first female solo anchor of a weekday evening news broadcast in the United States when she joined the CBS Evening News. However, her tenure at CBS was met with mixed reviews and moderate ratings compared to her time on “Today.”
