Katie Horner is an American meteorologist currently working for KMBC-TV since January 7, 2013. Prior to that, she worked at KMOV as a 4 Warn Meteorologist alongside Robin Smith on News 4 at Noon. Horner spent over 17 years as a Chief Meteorologist in the Kansas City area.
Horner attended the University of Kansas where she graduated with a B.S. ChE in 2009. Later in 2011, she started attending USC as a part-time student while pursuing an MS in Engineering in Green Technologies. Katie later even authored a children’s book, ‘Brainstorming.” It was a creative guide to parents and children through severe weather.
Additionally, Katie gained interest in the weather at quite a young age. She started her career in forecasting in 1989 at WEAR-TV in Pensacola, Florida. After a while, she relocated to Kansas City in 1994 and joined KCTV after 4 years in 1998 to replace Gary Amble. Katie stayed for 18 years and then left for St. Louis.
In St. Louis, she took care of her ill father while forecasting the weather at KMOV as well as KSDK. Unfortunately, her father passed on. Horner then left for the West to take the position as a Public Affairs Director for the Kansas Adjunct General based in Topeka, Kansas.
