Marie Saavedra is an Emmy award and Regional Edward R. Murrow Award-winning American journalist currently working as a 4 p.m. anchor and reporter at WBBM-TV, CBS Chicago. She joined the station in October of 2020. A native of Evanston, Saavedra attended the University of Missouri where she received a Bachelor of Journalism, Broadcast.
Saavedra kicked off her career as an anchor and reporter at KYTV in Springfield, Missouri. She was on the scene after the destruction of the EF-5 tornado that struck Joplin in 2011. Saavedra received a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her coverage of a Missouri veteran whose case was mismanaged at a local VA hospital.
Afterward, Saavedra moved to Phoenix and worked at KTVK where she covered everything from immigration to wildfires. She then headed to Dallas at WFAA where she worked for 7 years. While there, she won Regional Emmy awards for her coverage of numerous feature stories and for live reporting on the night of the 2016 Dallas police ambush.
