Sergey Brin Biography
Sergey Brin is a Russian-American entrepreneur, computer scientist, and co-founder of Google. He was the president of Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. However, he stepped down from the position on December 3, 2019.
Additionally, Brin graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science in 1993. He then pursued a Ph.D. in computer science at Stanford University, where he met Larry Page, with whom he would later co-found Google.
In 1998, Brin and Page launched Google, which started as a research project at Stanford. The two developed a new algorithm for search engine technology that ranked web pages by their relevance to a search query. They initially called the search engine “Backrub” but later renamed it “Google.” The name was derived from the word “googol,” which is a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros.
He also served as the president of technology at Google from its founding until 2001 when Eric Schmidt was hired as CEO. Brin then took on the role of Director of Special Projects, where he focused on developing new products, including Google Glass.
Moreover, Sergey has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of technology, including the Marconi Prize in 2004 and the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1995. He was also inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2004.

In 2011, he launched the Brin Wojcicki Foundation with his ex-wife, Anne Wojcicki, which focuses on improving healthcare and advancing scientific research.
