Alex Cabrero Biography
Alex Cabrero is an Emmy Award-winning American journalist who currently works as a reporter at KSL-TV after joining the station in 2004. He has covered several high-profile Utah stories in Salt Lake City, including the Trolley Square shootings, the Crandall Canyon mine collapse, and the Susan Powell missing person case.
Cabrero has also covered national and international stories with Utah links for KSL, including the disastrous California wildfires, Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast, and the earthquake tragedies in Haiti and Nepal. Alex has covered the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the 2012 Olympics in London, the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Alex is a seven-time Emmy Award winner, including a National Emmy for his reporting during the Tennessee standoff. In 2016, he was selected as the best local TV news reporter in the Rocky Mountain Region, earning him an Emmy. Cabrero has received over 50 awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Utah Broadcasters Association in total.
Before coming to Utah, Cabrero covered the September 11th terrorist attacks. He trained for the first wave of 101st Airborne soldiers to be dispatched to Afghanistan. He also covered the burial of country music legend Johnny Cash. Cabrero previously worked for WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee, WRCB in Chattanooga, Tennessee, KPVI in Pocatello/Idaho Falls, Idaho, News 55 in Twin Falls, Idaho, and Cable 6 TV in Middletown, New York.

Cabrero is a native of Rock Hill, New York. He obtained an Associate’s Degree in Communications from Orange County Community College. He also got a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Production from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Cabrero is an Eagle Scout, a college baseball player, and a Rock Hill Fire Department volunteer firefighter/rescue SCUBA diver.
During his spare time, Cabrero likes visiting national and state parks, exploring rural areas of Utah, and playing baseball in the Utah Men’s Adult Baseball League for the Utah Rockies.
