Ashlei King is a popular American journalist who currently serves as a co-anchor on Fox16’s Good Day morning show since July of 2018. In addition, she is a reporter at KARK 4 News on weekdays. King comes to Arkansas from her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, where she spent the last four years at KABB FOX 29. During her time there, she was nominated for an Emmy for her job on a documentary about the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. March, which is the biggest in the country.
Regarding her schooling, Ashlei obtained her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. During her first year at UT, she was an active member of the co-ed cheerleading squad. She cheered for the Texas Longhorns football team as well as the men’s basketball team. Moreover, she ran hurdles on the UT Track & Field team for two years.
King began her broadcasting career in Austin, where she was the CBS affiliate’s UT reporter. In addition, she was the Assistant News Director for Texas Student Television’s KVR News. After graduating, Ashlei served for KTXS in Abilene. During her tenure in Abilene, she received a Texas Associated Press Award for deadline editing. Prior to returning to the Alamo City, she worked in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the CBS affiliate for two years.
During her stay in Tulsa, she covered a wide range of stories from tornadoes to destructive wildfires that torched hundreds of homes. Her most remarkable moment was when she did a live interview on CNN with Don Lemon regarding a racially motivated shooting spree in Tulsa.
King was born in Italy and spent part of her childhood in Germany. She has deep-seated roots in Arkansas. The King side of her family is from Southeast Arkansas (Dermott, Monticello, and McGehee regions). She has family that still resides in the area. In fact, Ashlei is related to music legend Michael Jackson. His great-grandfather and grandmother were first cousins.
