Barbara Gibbs is a renowned American journalist who currently co-anchors the morning and noon newscasts along with Eyewitness News Anchor Amber Rupinta, John Clark, and ABC11 AccuWeather Meteorologist Don Scwenneker. She joined WTVD-TV ABC 11 Eyewitness News in 2001. Prior to coming to Raleigh, Gibbs served as a morning anchor and reporter at WTVQ (Lexington, KY). Thereafter, she co-anchored the 6/11 pm programs at WSLS-TV (Roanoke, Virginia).

Gibbs has covered all types of stories. Her passion is telling stories regarding the positive power of the human spirit. In 2002, Gibbs received an Emmy award from the Nashville Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the best feature story for “Homeless Singers.” The story was about 3 homeless men in Raleigh thirsting to be gospel singers. In addition, Gibbs got an Emmy nomination for a second feature “Barbara Gibbs’ Little Valentine.” The piece was about a young boy in Spring Lake, NC, who melted her heart on Valentine’s Day.

Some of Gibbs’s most remarkable stories include traveling to New York City with a Durham breast cancer survivor to meet “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts. She as well met a miracle family; a young mother experiencing cystic fibrosis who survived giving birth and a double-lung transplant. Moreover, Gibbs had the opportunity to tell a soldier’s story; local veterans in the home building industry constructed a house for free for a triple amputee Iraq war soldier and his wife.

Gibbs is actively involved in the community. Every year, she participates with talented young, local golfers in the “Jimmy V Jr Celebrity Golf Classic,” with the aim to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. She has also participated in different fundraising events benefiting groups from the MDA, American Cancer Society, and Building Together Ministries.

Gibbs was brought up in Memphis, Tennessee, then her family moved to Texas and New Jersey and finally settled in the place she calls home, Mobile, Alabama.
