Jim Axelrod is an American journalist currently working as the Chief Investigative Correspondent for CBS News. He reports for “CBS Mornings,” the “CBS Evening News,” “CBS Sunday Morning,” and other CBS News broadcasts.
In 1996 Jim joined CBS News as a Miami-based correspondent. He later served in the Dallas Bureau from 1997 to 1999 and New York Bureau from 1999 to 2006. He also served as CBS News’ chief White House correspondent from 2006 to 2009 and in 2009 he was named a CBS News national correspondent. From 2012 to 2016, Jim was the anchor of the Saturday edition of “CBS Evening News.”
While at CBS News, Axelrod has covered a broad range of domestic and international stories, notably the war in Iraq and the American invasion of Afghanistan.
Prior to joining CBS News in 1996, he was a political reporter at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina from 1993 to 1996. Previously, Jim was a reporter for WSTM-TV Syracuse, New York from 1990 to 1993. From 1989 to 1990 he was at WUTR-TV Utica, New York. He began his career at WVII-TV Bangor, Maine, in 1989.
