Joe Torres is an American Award-winning journalist and author currently working as a news anchor and reporter at WABC-TV in New York. He also occasionally substitutes anchors on the station’s weeknight Eyewitness News broadcast. Besides that, he co-hosts the station’s Saturday and Sunday night newscasts with Sandra Bookman.
Prior to joining WABC-TV, Joe worked at WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia, WNEP-TV in Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, and WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. Born in Brooklyn New York, he attended P.S. 198 until the sixth grade when his family moved to Northern Westchester County. Additionally, he is a graduate of SUNY Brockport where he played intercollegiate soccer, and John Jay High School in Cross River, New York. While there, he was a member of the varsity soccer, basketball, and baseball teams.
Torres began his television career in 1987 as an NBC Page in New York. However, his first reporting job was at WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia where he worked as a general assignment reporter and best reporter covering county government. Later, he moved to ABC affiliate WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania to work as a Consumer Reporter, General Assignment Reporter, and Weekend Anchor. He joined the eyewitness News team as a general assignment reporter in 1996.
