Jonathan Capehart Biography
Jonathan T. Capehart is an American journalist and television personality who writes for The Washington Post’s PostPartisan blog and is the host of The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC. Capehart worked as a researcher for NBC’s The Today Show before joining The Washington Post and MSNBC. From 1993 to 2000, he worked at the New York Daily News, where he was a member of the editorial board.
Capehart was the newspaper’s youngest editorial board member at the time of his employment. Jonathan left the Daily News in 2000 to work for Bloomberg News. Following that, he counseled and authored speeches for Michael Bloomberg during his 2001 campaign for mayor of New York City.
Similarly, he returned to the New York Daily News in 2002 as deputy editor of the editorial page, where he remained until 2004. Capehart became a Senior Vice President and Senior Counselor of Public Affairs at the global public relations company Hill & Knowlton in December 2004.

In 2007, Jonathan began working for The Washington Post as a journalist and member of the editorial board. He continues to work in that role and contributes to MSNBC as a commentator. He also conducts the Cape Up podcast, where he interviews politicians about race, age, gender, religion, and cultural identity.
In addition, Capehart started guest anchoring the WNYC radio show Midday on WNYC in 2018. (formerly The Leonard Lopate Show). he also hosted the premiere episode of The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC on December 13, 2020.
Capehart took over for Mark Shields on the PBS NewsHour’s Friday political analysis program in January 2021. Furthermore, he was a major contributor to a staff submission for the New York Daily News that won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing in 1999. The Apollo Theater’s financial irresponsibility was blasted in a series of editorials.
In addition, Capehart was named an Esteem Honoree in 2011, a designation awarded to people who have made significant contributions to the African American and LGBT communities in the fields of entertainment, media, business, civil rights, and art.
In June 2020, Queerty named him one of fifty heroes “pushing the nation toward equality, acceptance, and decency for all people” in honor of the 50th anniversary of the inaugural LGBTQ Pride parade.
