Sofia Ojeda is an American Emmy award-winning journalist. Currently she works at KPRC Channel 2 News in Houston. She serves as the Weekend Morning Anchor and Reporter. Sofia joined KPRC Channel 2 News team in 2015. Sofia brings more than 15 years of television news experience to the Valenti School of Communication.
Previously, Sofia was a a Reporter and Weekend Anchor at WNEP in Scranton, Pennsylvania where she worked for five years. Later she moved to evening anchor of the 7pm, 10pm and 11pm newscasts. Sofia began her professional career as a News Desk Assistant back at WABC News in New York City. She was later employed as a freelance reporter at News 12 The Bronx.
Sofia moved to Binghamton, New York that summer and worked as a news reporter And evening anchor for three years at WIVT/WBGH NewsChannel 34. From there she then worked at WETM in Elmira, New York as a news reporter and morning anchor. Before transferring to Houston.
While still at college Sofia worked as a news anchor and sports reporter for the school’s TV station. As a college junior, she landed her first internship in sports at WABC News in New York City. She helped cover major sporting events and interviewed Major League Baseball and NFL athletes. Sofia also helped produce the sports segment for nightly newscasts.
Next she landed a second internship at WABC-TV in the news department where she helped cover breaking news stories and worked on scene with reporters during live news segments.
Sofia was awarded an Emmy for Hurricane Harvey coverage in 2018. Her piece titled “Hurricane Harvey’s Unsung Heroes” captured the heroic efforts of every day citizens in the Houston area helping to rescue people from the rising flood waters.
