Kirsten Mitchell Biography
Kirsten Mitchell is an American journalist who works as a reporter at WCCO-TV since joining the station in November of 2021. She was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota and she is excited to tell stories in her home state. Mitchell joined the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (Go Gophs!) where she received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. In addition, she was an intern at WCCO during her time there.
Prior to joining WCCO, Mitchell worked as a weekend anchor and reporter at KSEE/KGPE in Fresno, California. She reported on the frontlines of wildfires and covered the state’s severe drought. Mitchell kicked off her on-air career working as a multimedia journalist in Panama City, Florida. While there, she covered Hurricane Michael, giving the community lifesaving information during and after the category-five storm.
Her coverage garnered her numerous awards like the 2018 Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Association award for best overall multimedia journalist and best general assignment story. Mitchell’s blood may have thinned the last few years but she is excited to be home, just in time for a true Minnesota winter. During her free time, Mitchell enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new restaurants around town, running, and hiking.
