Gwen Tolbart is an Emmy Award-winning American television broadcasting journalist presently serving as a meteorologist at FOX 5. You can catch her reporting stories on Wednesdays and Thursdays on the evening programs and giving weather forecasts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Tolbart is a third-generation born Canadian who loves the snow but hates the cold.

Tolbart started her broadcasting career in her birthplace in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She received a BA in Journalism from Montreal’s Concordia University and is a Social Science graduate of Dawson College. She began in Community Tv working as a host and producer of the Black Community Communications Media’s news magazine program called “Black Is.” In addition, she contributed to the radio program, “Black Speaks.”

Thereafter, she moved to Canada’s nationally-broadcasted “Weather Network” serving as a weather and news anchor. She received a weather team Emmy, 5 National Association of Black Journalists Broadcasting Awards, and the “2000 Media Person Of the Year” award.

In 2002, Tolbart joined the Nation’s Capital and WTTG FOX 5 DC as a weather anchor and reporter. Since then, she has garnered 5 Emmy nominations and 3 Associated Press awards. With strong community devotion, women’s causes, interest in youth, and supporting positive direction she has always been active in community service in both USA and Canada. In Montreal, one of her projects was “Positive Images,” a mentoring program she initiated for adolescent inner-city girls. One highlight she planned for the girls to meet Coretta Scott King.

While at CBS in Dallas, Tolbart tutored elementary school children and aided in setting up mentor programs and workshops for at-risk girls and single teen mothers. She garnered the prestigious National Association of Black Journalists’ “National Community Service Award” (NABJ) and appeared in Jet Magazine and in 2002 she won a “Woman of Distinction Award” with official commendations from the Governor of Texas, Texas State Representative, and the United States Congress.

Tolbart was officially honored on the floor by the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, Government of Canada in 2002 for her career achievements and community service. In Washington DC, she worked on the Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Also for 14 years, she served on the Board of “Our House,” (a residential program for at-risk adolescent males) in Olney MD. While there, she arranged programs and raised huge funds for a new dorm.

During her stay in Washington DC, Tolbart earned the “2004 Voices Against Violence Award” from The Empower Program (serving teen girls), the “2009 New Endeavors By Women Volunteer Award” (serving homeless women), D.C.’s Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. “2005 Woman Of The Year” (non-member), was selected one of the “2014 Top 100 Women In the State of Maryland” by The Daily Record and in 2018 she was recognized by Comfort Cases (serving foster children) with the “Champion Of the Year Award.

Moreover, her alma mater, Concordia University used her in a billboard campaign. The aim was to promote education and she was selected a “Leader and Honorary Member” of the All-Canada University Association, Washington DC Metro Area. Similarly, in 2016, Tolbart was truly humbled and honored to get a distinguished recognition, President Obama’s “Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service.”

Besides, as an entrepreneur, Tolbart has her own professional speaking business “Tolbart Talks.” She also serves as a motivational and keynote speaker, seminar leader, emcee, and speaking coach. She is also a member of the National Speaker’s Association (NSA) and a former Board Member of the D.C. NSA Chapter. She was first runner-up in the “NSA USA National Keynote Speaking Competition.”
